CHOSEN: A Ministry for Widows

CHOSEN provides ladies who have lost their husbands a place of belonging, healing and opportunities to help others through their loss.

On July 21st, 2002, I became a widow and single mom at the age of 37 when my husband Scott was killed instantly in a car accident.  Even though the loss of my husband has been the most painful experience of my life thus far, this time has also been filled with valuable life lessons and a deepened understanding of my Heavenly Husband Jesus (Isaiah 54:5). Since my experience, I have watched many other widows, younger and older, suffer as they walk the journey of widowhood.  It became my heart’s desire to come along beside these precious souls, encouraging them that there is still hope in the midst of their circumstances.

In April of 2005, God led me to develop Chosen: A Ministry for Widows.  Chosen’s title reflects not the circumstances of widowhood, but the identity in Christ widows must focus on in order to find true healing.  Chosen offers widows a place to belong, a place to heal and a place to come along beside another widow to offer support and encouragement.  We meet at First Baptist Hendersonville on a quarterly basis for fellowships and often have speakers that come and address a topic relevant to widowhood.  We have a Younger Chosen group for ladies under the age of 50 that meets for dinner on a monthly basis.  Chosen reaches out to all widows in the community, not just widows that attend First Baptist
